"Ok,I got the manual and kit and I am about ready to try and rebuild my first carb. I was reading the manual (Clymer) and it said Do not soak carb castings in carb cleaner. Now, does this mean I am not to soak the carb in a bucket of cleaner to clean it before rebuilding? Maybe I don't know what a casting is, but I am under the impression that it is the "body" of the carb.
If I don't soak it, how am I supposed to clean this thing before I rebuild it? Do I just spray EVERYTHING with can carb cleaner and rinse and dry thoroughly?

Question 2: I says "remove high-speed jet from float chamber with a fixed jet screwdriver (part No. 317002) or equivalent". Do I need a special tool to remove the jet or what else can I use?

The rebuild doen't sound too difficult, but since it is my first time, I want everything in place before I do it so I don't screw it up. I am sure I will be asking more dumb questions as I go through the engine "Synchronization and Linkage Adjustments" stage of the game, but that's enough for now. Thanks in advance for your help."

"Go for it. Use air to blow out the passages, even use arresol carb cleaner. Make sure the driver you use to remove the jet fits it well. Spray cleaner thru all the jets and passages you can find. There are no dumb questions if you learn something. Its a 5 min. job after you have done it 4-500 times."

The "special" tool is

The "special" tool is merely a screw driver. The tap drill size for a 1/4"-20 thread is #7 (0.201") .So find a screw driver/dowel pin/ or whatever that is 3/16" diameter and make it into a plain screwdriver to remove the jet. After you are done you will say "that was easy"
