carb problem on 45 Evenrude

the motor will idle but misfires put it into forward gear and it will die if you try to give it gas
if you let it idle in neutral the motor will increase rpm with out moving the throttle is this just a remove the carbs and clean them fix

Check some basic things first, what is the compression and will the spark jump a 7/16" air gap? Those engines will idle on 1 cylinder pretty good, make sure both cylinders are firing. If all that checks out ok, move on to the fuel delivery, check all fuel lines for any leaks, does the primer bulb pump up firm, is the fuel pump pumping? It could be time to overhaul the carb.
