"Hi guys new to the site. I just acquired a 1999 bayliner with a 305 merc for free. Its been sitting for over a year and is in excellent condition. The carb is not getting fuel. The manual says to make sure fuel shutoff valve was open but after following the fuel line from the tank I did not find one. Is the fuel pump right after the filter? If thats it how do I check if its working properly? Does it make a sound when it turns on? The boat was running great before put up in storage. Is there a fuse for the pump that I should check and is there anything else? When I pump the throttle, no fuel drops in the carb and also the filter remains empty. Thanks, Dustin"

The filter can be removed to check for fuel.

Look on the dash for a "kill switch"; it may be in the kill position.

Does the engine crank when the ign. key is turned to the start position? When the key is turned the fuel relay starts the pump for a few seconds and the oil pressure fuel pump switch keeps it running while there is oil pressure."

Thats exactly what I see. The engine does turn over good and the filter is empty. Checked it again after cranking it some more and still empty. Just put new gas in. No kill switch on the dash. Should i try and connect fuel pump directly to a 12v source and see if it works? I have seen on here where some people bypass the oil pressure switch should i do that and where is it located and which wires do I jump? This boat is new to me I am accustomed to working on 40 yr old 2 stroke outboards. Thanks

"Actually I did find a switch next to the control cables that has run and off on it, but it was in the run position the whole time"

I doubt even Bayliner omitted

I doubt even Bayliner omitted a fuel shut off valve in their pursuit of "value boats"... Keep looking.

Call a dealer and ask a mechanic where the fuel SO valve is locted. There is a 20 amp inline fuse. Follow the 12 volt line from the motor and look for a bayonet connector; it may be corroded. Put a test light on the fuel pump to see if it gets voltage to it. You can use a jumper to the pump motor to see if it runs.

"Hi, just to respond back, I actually ended up taking my primer bulb from my outboard motor and hooked it up between the tank and the fuel filter. Pumped it up and works like a dream. Thanks for the help."

Sounds like maybe you have an air leak somewhere in the main fuel line. Check it for cracks or tears especially where the clamps are.
