"i have a 1988 johnson 88hp engine. Every other year, I need to clean the carburator because it idles really bad. The boat only is used once or twice a month every season. I have a water seperator/fuel filter on the input, and I drain the gas at the end of the season. Is there someway to drain the gas after use to prevent this? Maybe disconnect the fuel line and let the engine starve?"

"Running the gas out of the engine is really not a good idea as the top carburetor will run out of gas first which allows a couple aluminum pistons run up and down the steel cylinder walls with improper or no lubrication.

Better to mix in a substance with the fuel recommended by your local Evinrude/Johnson dealership which will help prevent having the fuel foul the carburetors, and follow the instructions.

You can always drain the carburetors by removing the bottom screw plug located on either side of the float chambers.
