"The Solex manual tells me my AQ151A (mine is a C) has a Solex 44PAI-4 carb. What means the '4'? Reason I ask, I want to rebuild the two of them and I want to be sure I order the proper carb kit number. El Pescador, is the 18-7000 you mentioned in another post the one I need?

Thanks, Tom"

"The "four" refers to

"The "four" refers to the architecture (specs) of the carburetor internals which is unique for each type of engine. Included are such things as the Venturi, jets, etc. Kits for the Solex PAI44 are mostly generic and do not include parts crucial to a specific engine. These are Volvo items only. However, one part in a kit, the air/fuel needle, may not fit all carbs. If the needle is bad, check first."

"Hi Dennis and all,
If you wanted to re build the PAI 44 completely where would you find the internal parts (jets etc) since these are not included in the generic Solex re build kit. I am particularly interested in the AQ151C carb parts."

"Tom, if the needle is not bent or blunted through abuse they seem to last a long, long time. Some needles have O rings or springs and these should be checked. Kits that I've seen have the needle with spring. However, some late carburetors incorporate a recessed needle with O ring. I believe some of the old side drafts also use that type. The newer carbs require eight turns and the older, I think, used four turns or 1 1/2 turns. Don't quote that, though.

Lawrence, I don't know what to tell you. The jets and some other hard parts are Volvo dealer items. Occasionally, a complete carb shows up on EBay but that is a crap shoot (uncertain)."
