Carb cleaning

1989GT150V6

Hi

Decided to give the carbs a clean today on my GT150 V6 with some spray type Carb cleaner.

Removed the air inlet box and exposed the six inlets on the 3 twin barrel carbs. Warmed up the engine on muffs and started to spray into the top carb. As expected the revs died so backed off spraying and waited for the engine to clear and settle back to tick over.

I noticed that as I sprayed into the second carb, the revs didn't drop as much as the 1st/top carb and when spraying into the bottom carb, hardly dropped at all.

is it normal to have such a differences?

As usual any feedback or advice gratefully received.

Well you cleaned the cylinders really did nothing for the carbs. Don't use carb cleaner like that on a 2 strk the cylinders can be damaged by the cleaner. They get damaged by the carb cleaner stripping the cylinder walls of oil. The only true way to clean a carb is take it apart. Your method only cleaned the bores of the carbs not the internals. If the motor runs fine don't worry about it.

Pull carbs,Disassemble, Soak,Scrub every passageway, jets, bowls, floats, needles, seats,ETC. thoroughly,Purchase rebuild kits and have at it! Taking pictures before you tear them apart might help along with proper manual

Thanks guys - big learning curve for me as a new owner.

Will wait till the end of the season and remove the carbs for a proper strip and clean.
