"OK, So FINALLY, my engines are running so great I am tickled pink just by turning the key and hearing them start so freakin' easily. Absolutely great...

I have adjusted the timing to 10 degrees on the dot. I am using the Edelbrock 1409 look alikes . I THINK they are Carters 9780S. There are two mixture screws on the base that do affect the idle and I have them set to about 3/4 turn each . Any tighter and the engine will stall, any looser and they get rougher. Exactly which reference am I supposed to set them for? Is it a drop and recovery in idle speed, vacuum? Talk about confused

Those old Linkert carbs on v-twins were real easy...1 jet, 1 mixture screw, 2 plugs"

"Tell you the truth, Al, marine engines are hard to get the idle set right (because the stubborn things don't move very much on the rigid mounts like a car/ truck engine).

Since the motor doesn't rock back and forth you have to stick a vacuum gage on it. Just be sure you don't use the PCV valve hose--that'll remove a vacuum "leak" and screw up the results.
