Working on a '66 80hp Johnson. Is there a way to test the distributor cap and plug wires with a multi meter to see if they're good?

You can check continuity through plug wires....there should be no resistance on R x 1 scale....analog meter. So no resistance in wires. Cap...... a good visual inspection should indicate problems, if they exist. Make sure wires are not leaking/arcing to ground.

I used to test those caps with a MERC-O-TRONIC magneto analyzer.-----Have many used and a few new caps on hand here.

Yes can be tested with my condenser tester too. They certainly can and do fail. Think they are available here at Marineengine at $70 bucks.

Rotor is $70 ----Cap is listed at $211-------So testing is what you learn to do.-----What is this motor doing / not doing ???----What trouble shooting has been done if any ?

I ran into a conversion to silicon/carbon core wires once on these. Make sure that some fool hasn't worked on it and done such a thing. Of course you must use high quality copper core wires.
