have 83 90hp v4 2 stroke every thing i do seems to make it worse. hit bottom miner damage to alum prop next time in water at high speed every 45secs or so engine would all of a sudden shake violetly for split second and stop i thought maybe prop causing cavatation boat would stay on plane but moter would jump then go like nothing had happened. changed prop to s/s prop bought used problem got worse now engine jumping every 30sec or so thought maybe prop spun had new bushing pressed in now seems even worse can just get away from dock start to speed up now problem starts and stops every 3 or 4 secs cant get up to speed if it was a car i would say trans jumping in and out of gear feel like putting old alum prop back on and starting over to see were iam at with this THANKS FOR ANY HELP
 
If it feels like you're hitting a submerged object, then yes, it's jumping out of and back into gear. If so, unfortunately it looks like you did some internal lower unit damage.
 
Mine does that, feels like a sudden clunk, like I hit something or a quick neutral out. Found out its a miss, motor is running a little too rich.
 
Take the plugs out 1 at a time & tell us accurately what color each one is. From top to bottom. Also if you find any water or rust on a plug
 
Might as well face it, it is a worn out clutch dog and forward gear. Had nothing to do with hitting something, other than just dumb luck it happened at the same time. The stinless prop won't cause it, but now that the wear is already there, it may accelerate further wear. Matter of fact, just continuing to run it is causing further damage. In any case, it isn't going to heal itself, and a lower unit rebuild is what you are looking at.
 
thanks to everybody for input this weekend will be able to get back to look at it thinking like fdrgator time to face the facts and pony up to the bank

My 140 did the exact same thing. I tore the lower apart, only to find out it was bad carbs causing a miss.
