"Hello all,so on my 65 chrysler LM318,after completing a points, cap, rotor, tune up upon firing her up for a test run I noticed smoke comeing from the out line of my raw water impeller, pulled it out it was pretty thrashed, got replacement, tried to make sure i got out all the old rubber bits and pieces installed and it did it again,no raw water seems to be getting past that impeller..any thoughts?"

"You have either a blocked hose or strainer before the raw water pump, or a serious air leak.

I assume you folded the vanes into the pump body the correct way? They should trail as the shaft is turned and, no, they won't flip over on their own.

"right on thanks guys! heading out right now to re-re-install...question,correct me if wrong,so that raw water hose before going to impeller passes through a oil cooler before that it comes directly from the bottom of the boat where is sucks the water..?,if wanted to replace the section of hose that runs from the raw inlet to the oil cooler while my boat is in the water, is water just gonna start flooding in when i pull the hose from the inlet?"

Not if you first close the sea

Not if you first close the seacock. No seacock? Not only very bad but illegal.
