"I have a 78 F-32 and the port

"I have a 78 F-32 and the port engine was beeing a bit of a problem at the start of the season( not idling right, alot of smoke from the valve cover filter and oil filler cap). I got a friend of mine who knows more than me to have a look and he fiddle with the timing and plug wires and distrubuter. He got it all good and i took it out and was going great (both engines crusing at 3200) then port side started to die out then quit. I tried moving the distributer around and couldnt get it going. Yesterday he fixed it agian and had to move the distributer agian and he cleaned the carb. I have old gas in both tanks too that iam trying to burn out. But yesterday the engine wouldnt go past 2900rpms, I tried pushing it for a while and then it smelt like burning rubber from the exhaust hoses. he siad probly from unburnt fuel burning in there...any ideas???"

"Jamie, if you can smell burnt

"Jamie, if you can smell burnt rubber from the exhaust you may have a bad water pump impeller,
which is causing the engine to overheat due to low water circulation. the rubber smell is the exhaust hose overheating. this could also cause you to lose power. wouldnt hurt either to add some lucas fuel stabilizer to the tanks, this will
stabilize the poor quality fuel and lubricate the fuel system and carbs. YOU REALLY NEED TO CHECK THE WATER TEMP FIRST if you dont have a temp gauge for your water you can simply place your hand on the exhaust hoses, if they are too hot too touch, you probably have a bad impeller in the water pump on that engine or a blockage. better check it out as this can cause severe damage to the motor. Hope this helps you out."
