OK so I have a mercruiser 165 4cy. I bought this boat as a project (isnt that how we all get stuck). The boat was getting no spark to the plugs. I took apart so much and ended up finding that the keyway was broken on the camshaft, so the distributor rotor wasnt spinning, which it is now. I purchased a flamethrower coil and a new pertronix electronic ignition system to replace the points system. I wired the electronic ignition red wire to + on coil and black wire to - on coil. I also have a grey wire on coil - going to tach and a wire directly from my ignition switch to + coil bringing in 12v when key is turned on.

Maybe I am testing for spark wrong, but shouldnt i get something somewhere???? What would my next move be? Maybe rotor can be bad? Is there a way to test and see that the coil is performing correctly??

bad tach will kill spark, disconnect the tach lead. Do you actually have 12v at the = side of the coil? Is the shift interrupt wheel centered in the V notch?

2X on the tach.

the other item is if you still have the "factory" engine harness, you don't have what you think you have so, it is highly likely you didn't install the module correctly.
