"Just bought a Penn Yan with twin 318s. The starboard engine won't run over 2000 rpms under load. It idles fine and revs fine in neutral. So far I have swapped carbs between engines, replaced gas filters, coil, plugs, ballaster resister and checked timing. It has new Malloy distributors. When running at 1500 rpms the temperature is 140 F, oil pressure 70-80psi and 13 volts. When I bought it the replaced the head gasket and I talked with the mechanic who did the work. He said the manafolds were good and he checked compression after the work was completed and it was good. I also ran back in May when I picked it up. My next steps are to check compression and look for any exhaust restrictions.

Anyone have any suggestions? The only good thing is that I still have my 19 foot Larson to use for the 4th.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff"

Fuel pump or ECU? Both can partially fail but continue to run the engine at lower RPM's.
Both can be swapped with the port engine to eliminate the source. Try the ECU first. The stbd fuel pump is a pita to reach.

"Try this (and don't laugh): Warm the motor, let it idle, then pull each plug wire from the distributor (with insulated pliers and thick gloves). The motor should slow as the wire comes out, then pick back up as it is replaced.

Betcha there's a couple of crossed wires--easy to do with that crappy wiring arrangement Mopar used (with the wires going between the manifold and valve covers. What the hell were they thinking?)
