Can a stator cause an engine to misfire? also spark plug wire read 2.0 ohms resistance. tried two different multimeters. 1985 70 Evinrude elcos

It depends on the condition of the stator. If it's in the meltdown stage and ripping a sticky looking substance down on the timer base and powerhead area... Yes! A situation like that could result in having the stator function fine when cold but when hot supply weak, erratic.... and eventually No Ignition.

But... If the stator is in new condition, misfires are unlikely to be the cause of the stator.

the stator is 35 yrs old. cold it tests fine with an ohm meter. i have relaced coils, ignition module, timing base, spark plugs, been through the carbs, changed the gas..still misfires between two three cylinders at idle. mostly two and it wont take off. yesterday it went between two and one cylinders limping back to the boat launch..
