Can new timer base or stator kill an old powerpack?

Quick Summary. Boat ran rough. Diagnosis pointed to timer base and startor. Replaced them. Now boat won't start and diagnosis suggests both powerpacks have failed. Could new timer base and / or stator have killed the power packs? Details below.

Boat has been running very rough for a while, but it did start and run. Did diagnoses and discovered wires on the timer pack were corroded and failing, and stator while still working was failing - weak with black goo running out of it.

So I bit the bullet and bought replacements for both. Now the boat won't start. I have absolutely no spark on the left side, and extremely weak spark on the right side. Measurements as follows (using CDI DVA adaptor)

Stator
-------
Resistance: Ok as per CDI guide.
Both Sides Disconnected - 190V
Right Side Connected - 190V
Left Side Connected - 120V

Timer Base
-------------
Resistance: Ok as per CDI guide.
Disconnected (Left & Right, White to Blue & White to Green) - 0.6V
Connected (either or both sides) - 0.2V

Based on the CDI guide, this suggests the powerpacks are both bad. What I can't figure out is why if they are bad, the boat ran before I replaced the parts?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

Facts-----The first thing I would do is charge the battery / load test the battery.----Then take the starter apart for inspection.----Then inspect battery cables.-----To usual reply to these suggestions is that there is nothing wrong with the cranking.----But I can not see / hear / feel your motor.---Nothing in post #1 to tell me that all is OK there.

If you are using CDI parts, check pins and sokets for good connections. With spark plugs out, disconnect both black/yellow wires from power packs and recheck spark.

I should have mentioned that.

I've charged and checked battery & checked voltage drop to starter. Both are good. Battery was checked by parts store on their battery tester.
I've also checked RPM & get 300-350 RPM when cranking so that seems good.
