"I'm not sure this is a marine thermostat but I wanted to use the housing that it fits in on my CS280 409 Crusader. I bought the housing on ebay I'm sure it will work since it came off a 409 engine but I can't seem to find anything like in on line. It is approximatly 2" in dia The housing that is currently on the engine doesn't have room for a thermostat. I tried auto parts on line but no luck. The engine runs cold it's a 1/2 fwc and runs around 130 - 140 so I would like to get a thermostat in it this season.

"I cant say for the record BUT, it sure looks a lot like the one I just changed in our 454's at 160 degrees."

"Can you not use that one? Too hot? Put it in a pan of water and see what temp at which it opens.

Being a long time car mechanic in a past life, I will tell you that finding the right auto parts via the internet is sub optimal at best. I would stop into several auto parts stores and see if they can match it up."

I found out that it is a Harrison thermostat. I don't think the company is in business any more. I did order what I think may be a replacement from stant I will have to wait and see if it will fit. It is for a 1956 Lincoln with a 368 engine.

i should have referred you that way in the first place. Stant is the single biggest name in T-stats. If they don't have it... i doubt anyone does.

"It looks like an early version of the current part. Why don't you just ask Crusader for the current part number? If the engine is FWC 160 is correct, RWC engines use a 142. The temp should be stamped on the part."

I found a replacement from Stant 13926 it does not look quite the same but it is the replacement for it and will fit. The engine never had a thermostat in it. The service manual doesn't show one in it either. Since the engine is so old it's been a challenge to find parts for it but it runs good. I'm not sure this will work but since it needs to run a little warmer I wanted to give it a try. I don't think Crusader made many of this engine away. I have a machine shop making me adapter plates so I can put new exhaust manifolds on it in the spring. Thanks for the support.

"Just be sure you aren't running your exhaust manifold cooling water through the thermostat, they need a constant flow."
