Can a newer Evinrude Ignition system be used on an older model

" I have an Evinrude 72 model

" I have an Evinrude 72 model 100HP which needs a new ignition system.
Could the ignition system from a 75 model 115HP work on the older motor?
Are the engine blocks the same?
If I can work, this would save me money buying new electrics.

from everything I can find the ignition system will work you will need to rewire the Engine to match the newer engine from part # etc the engines are the same internally the ignition system would need to include the trigger etc. that is under the flywheel I hope this helps

Sorry about your luck. The newer systems were a magneto fired unit. Do more research before spending money.For example the fly wheel controls the timing on the newer motor.How would you bolt the stator on to the older motor.It is time do more research!!!!

your control box is needed for the shift . The ignition switch would need to be changed as the magneto fired ignition is "open' to run.
