Can a choke screw get into the Cylinder?

First here is what I have:
[h=1]1983 Johnson 7.5 hp J8SRLCTA[/h]The problem is the choke won't close or open. It's kind of mostly closed. I haven't had a good look yet. But i'm thinking one of the screws that hold the butterfly on has come off. Allowing the butterfly to get calk eyed in the throat of the carb.
I rebuilt the carb last winter and didn't touch the butterfly. (No need to.)
Here is the Million $ question. How do I get a screw out of inside the reed valve area? (Not sure it's there yet, but I'm sure its not in the breather box...) Can I shake it upside down?
The screws must be accessed for the front of the carb. Right?
How much would a screw in there mess things up? (Doesn't the fuel mix go right into the crank area...? Yikes!) Can it be stopped before it goes to the bottom of the motor?
The motor didn't have any problems up until I went to start it last week. I pushed the choke in and it didn't move. (I keep it closed at dock because of spiders....See pictures!) It pulls over fine. No sign of any foreign objects detected by pulling it over. (Yet.)
I can't seem to find any reference to screws on the butterfly on this site....?
Any direction is gladly accepted. (It's a huge pain sailing a 26' through a mooring area to get in and out of my slip!)

To access the reed plates to see if the screw is logged ot sitting in one of them, you'll need to remove the carburetors and the intake manifold.

If it got into the crankcase, hopefully it simply got blown out the exhaust and did not damage to nay of the pistons.

I've never had the intake apart. How stiff are the reed valves? (manifold) http://www.marineengine.com/parts/j...ufacturer=Johnson&section=Intake+Manifold-7.5

Last time I ran it was going out to go sailing. I wasn't any ware near WOT. Maybe 1/4 throttle. So I'm hoping that it didn't get sucked through to the crank case... ( I don't want to take the manifold off if I can help it.) Wouldn't that make a bit of a mess of say the bearings and seals?
 
You got lucky. If it had gone through the reeds, it most likely would have destroyed something. Probably the cylinder and piston. Those screws are not to be removed. That is why they are not shown on the parts list. Since it has been removed, you must use a drop of high strength Locktite on the threads before you put it back in. Do the same on the other ones, if they have been removed.
