Cam Marks On 1973 25hp

Hi,I have a 1973 25hp evinrude model # 25302. There are two marks on the cam. I'm trying to find out which mark to use, the first one the roller would hit when throttling up or the furthest mark ? They are only about 1/4 " apart. The manual says to "line the roller up center of the mark". It does not say which one ? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. Here is where I'm still confused, the manual says the location for my year 1973 would be " C " states adjusted to center of mark, I have two marks. " D " location says between the marks. ( not my year) I should be looking for the " C " location. Just looking to get it right, I can see the marks are so close together it may not make a difference. Thanks

It would matter to me as to which mark to use. If you don't have the correct service manual from Evinrude for your motor, I would encourage you to get it. They're fairly cheap on ebay if you look hard enough, and worth their weight in gold. The Clymer and Seloc manuals have been known to have errors in them due to covering so many different models. Been there, done that.

I still say it is very difficult to get it precise, and I admire you for trying. But for the record, the factory service manual sez:

FDR, Thanks for taking the time to look that up, Thanks to everyone who posted. Didn't have the time to run the motor yet, but I feel a lot better about the Synch.
