Calibrate tachometer

Hi people! It is great to find you because i am having trouble with the tachs and i am pretty new in the outboards world.
I am using a johnson 60 tracker. I think is 93'. Someone else installed a new tachometer and it was working good until stopped doing it. Now it is settled in 80 and when it is started idles about 50 and running goes til 70. The only thing i did was changing batteries. So i do not know what the problem could be. So please if someone can put some light into this i would appreciate a lot.

There is a dial on the back of the tach where you select the pulse. Sometimes the contacts in that switch can get corrosion and cause funky readings. With the engine off Use a tiny flat blade screw to cycle the dial through all positions then return it to the original setting. I think yours should be on 6. If that doesn’t fix it you might have to look at the rectifier. Maybe when changing batteries you crossed or arced something and created a problem.

Thanks kevin! I did that with the switch at the back and nothing. So i think may be it has to do with battery. If the rectifier was the problem, it would work again the tach changing it? Should i get back to the other battery? And i wonder how can i restore the needle to zero.

You probably right! now i need to find the rectifier and test it. If the battery caused the problem with a new rectifier would happen the same? Thanks for your response!
