"I am considering buying an 89

"I am considering buying an 89 bowrider (Invader 16' for $2600) with the Volvo AQ131-D engine and 275 stern drive. Will this engine push this boat well enough for skiing and/or waking? The hull and interior are in great shape and the engine looks very clean and runs smoothly forwards and reverse. I can't find anything wrong with the boat or engine except the oil gauge doesn't work. I'm just looking for advice on this deal, with my particular concern being the engine performance. I know small engines fairly well, having rebuilt a couple of Toyota 1.8L and 2.4L, so I feel okay tackling future maintenance - though I know little about outdrives."

I have a 21 foot Renken with a cuddy. Engine is an AQ 120 B with a 270 outdrive. The boat is heavy and I have plenty of power to pull tubes or skis.
I think you will be impressed. Sounds like a deal to me!!!

"That boat will be no speed demon, top speed probably around 40 mph. My bigger concern would be the condition of the floor, stringers and transom. Check for rot, on a boat that old there is a fair chance that you will find some, especially if it was neglected.

it been a very dependable boat for me. has never been towed in."

It has a top speed of 34mph and pulls skiers and wakeboarders reasonably well out of the hole but those who start with one ski have some difficulty getting up.
The hole shot, time to plane and porposing were noticibly improved with a hydrofoil and a lower propeller pitch. Top speed dropped by 1 mph"
