"Hello to all fellow boat owners. Have owned an evinrude for the past 20 years and she is finally shot. Have always been amazed at how the mercs ran on other boats. Anyway I was shocked at the cost of new motors in the 25hp to 40hp range. Needless to say, I cant afford a new one. A local shop has a rebuilt 97 40hp 4cylinder 2 stroke merc with tilt/trim for $1800. The mechanic said this is considered one of the best outboard engines ever made. Is he being honest and how is the reliability of this motor and is this a fair price? Thanks in advance to any of your replys."
