I'm looking at a 2007 Merc/Tohatsu 25HP EFI. The compression readings painted on the motor are 115-80-79. The motor is otherwise in very nice shape and looks like it hasn't had much use (the paint on the lower unit and prop looks new). It has a trolling plate installed, and is located on a small lake. It is being sold by the son of the deceased owner, who doesn't know anything about it except that the last time he saw it used was around 2019.
So I'm wondering whether this is worth taking a risk on it for the right price. How likely is it that the problem is stuck rings from a lot of trolling and that the compression could be brought back by a de-carbing routine?
