"Move all family stuff out of garage..get padlock and dont give her the key..place fridge for beer etc in garage...move all tools work bench etc in garage...organize same while having a few cold ones..place hourly rate sign on garage door..specify a diagnostic charge of 2 cases of beer to discourage people looking for freebie advice..place ad in local freebie papers..get drinking buddies to spread word for you...place free business cards in all marina,s and marina bars and launch sites next to cash registers..(free cards off the web)...all advertisement including buddies, business cards, etc should include disclaimer thet you fish every thursday and are closed..friday also if fish are biting....You dont really think that anyone thats been in the outboard repair business started with a business plan do you?"

"Understood.... and you are totally correct.
Beer, fishing, and freebees are not part of a serious organization. Were I live there is no one with a professional shop with services A.....Z
All the local repair people are either fishing, drinking, or exchanging services for beer. However, there is no guarantee for the repairs and a can of beer should not replace of a bad gasket…….."

"Business plans would be desig

"Business plans would be designed for a specific business. Doubtful you will find one. Did the college you are at, not get to the part about writing up a business plan. Carl was likely just joking. Maybe you can find a plan for an auto repair business and use that as your model, and adjust as necessary. If you are going into this business, and your local market is starving for a good mechanic, then get as good at troubleshooting engines as best you can. Newer engines will need some expensive testing equipment. Good Luck, and be prepared to work 7 days a week. Contact the big mfg's and see what is needed to become a warranty dealer as well.
Exciting isn't it!"

i was joking..sorry if i offen

i was joking..sorry if i offended...a good business plan for an outboard repair shop is going to take a lot of work...especially if a bank has to be satisfied for a loan in todays banking envirement...the test equipment alone is expensive...and it is an ongoing expence..the last guy that i talked to in the business was an evinrude authorized guy...if evinrude came out with a new tool he received it and was billed whether he wanted the tool or not...having said that i wish you luck...

Thanks for the advice.... You both deserve a beer or two

I am using a B-Plan from an Auto repair shop as a guide.
What is the engine that sells the most? Mercury/Honda/Yamaha/evinrude etc......? What is your best guess?
