i have a 1998 200 evinrude which is burning stators. i bought a new cdi stator and within a few hours it burnt the coil with the orange wires. this coil has yellow wraping around it. i say its burnt because of the burnt discolor on the wraping. the other two coils with yellow wraping are slightly discolored. they appear to be starting to burn out. i have ohmed this coil with orange wires and it is 110 ohms. after use will these coils discolor? i can not get the rmps up past 2500. it also pops back though the exahst. not to bad enough but does cause alarm as i know it has never done this before.

"i would suspect,that u have the wrong stator,for your engine.or a def stator,have it wired wrong,or a bad voltage reg/rect,and maybe,a combo of the above."

the part # i used is 0584643.

the part # i used is 0584643. the wireing is correct.

"Unfortunately I retired a few years before that engine was manufactured and I'm not familiar with its circuitry.

However, what usually causes a coil that is incorporated in those stators to overheat quickly to an extreme point is.......

1 - A break in the wiring pertaining to the coil.

2 - A dirty but tight terminal connection which would result in a voltage drop, or a loose connection.

3 - One of the coil wires being connected to the incorrect terminal.

4 - One of the coil wires being connected to a faulty component.

The voltage being created by the magnetic properties of the flywheel revolving past it must be released via whatever component it is connected to, otherwise that voltage (keeping it simple) backs up at the coil and bakes it rather quickly."

can you tell me if the part# i

can you tell me if the part# i used is the correct one? should i change the rectifier since my first stator burnt to the ground? the orange wires coming from the stator are going to the powerpack. what is the fuction for this coil and the ohms for it?

"I would have def replaced reg

"I would have def replaced reg/rect...there has been a serious fire prob w/some reg/rect..
orange wires---quick start-RPM limiter
ohm's---u need a factory service manual-but,.it seems they are always out, of written specs."
