Burn marks

Hello , I have a 2014 yamaha 115 outboard . I have two small burn marks on both sides of the cover . Not sure what the cover is called but it’s midway . Below the power head but above the lower unit . Paint has minor melt on either side . Tried to load a picture . Hope it came through . Anybody seen this before ? Thank you

Are you talking about the lower cowling? The part that the top cowling sits on?

Have you removed the top cowling to see the source of the burn marks? I am thinking that you might have a hole in part of the exhaust system. That should be clearly visible. Particularly if you run the motor while doing the inspection.

I read somewhere that there’s an exhaust seal at that point ? Maybe have to remove the lower unit and cover to get at it ? Going to be doing the water pump soon anyway .
