I have a 60 horse evenrude th

I have a 60 horse evenrude that wont idle for long and when I switch from forward to reverse (or vise versa) I't cuts out. I'm hopeing this is an adjustment problem. other than that it runs great!!

"You don't say what year that 60hp is but I'm assuming that it is a later model with electronic ignition and that you are using Champion spark plugs gapped at .040 .

What is so hard about spelling Evin in front of rude? Hate that!

Compression should be in ther 100+ psi range and even on all cylinders. Spark (with the s/plugs out) should jump a 7/16" gap on all cylinders with a strong blue lightning like flame.

The idle rpm (on a flushette) should be 1000 rpm on a 20" shft engine, and 1200 rpm on a 25" shaft engine. The idle rpm will drop to normal when in the water due to exhaust back pressure.

If the above is as it should be, in all probability the carburetors are somewhat fouled and will require cleaning/rebuilding.
