Bringing old Fastwin 18 back to life

I got an old 18 HP Evinrude off a friend this week. I was the last person to drive it about 20 years ago. I would estimate it was new around 1970 from what my friend tells me. It appears to be a low hours motor to me and in quite nice cosmetic shape. IT does need a few parts before I attempt to start it.

When I drove it 20 plus years ago, it ran with good power but was shooting a stream of water out the side of the engine.(Water pump?? gasket? I probably went for a 15 minute drive. At that time it had not been used in many years. SO after the drive, it was put in a shed and nothing ever touched again.
old gas, no lube , no tender care.

So first off, how to identify the serial number? WHere is it?
I pulled the bottom drain plug near the prop and out came some water followed by goopy sludge like oil. Certainly not a good sign.
I am hoping to take things apart and at least learn how to service this motor.

Anyone know where to get a manual, and who might stock parts for a reasonable price? Ebay?
I'd like this motor to be a summer project to eventually power a 14 foot tin boat. I also have a Yamaha 20 HP two stroke that was run with a bad water pump, so maybe what I have are two boat anchors. I'd like to start with the Evinrude to see if it might be a good motor to try to keep on the water.
Was thinking at minimum it needs a new prop, water pump; carb servicing, fuel lines, ignition tune up.

Tips greatly appreciated.
