"I was about to fit a new set

"I was about to fit a new set of bellows to my 1996 Sea Ray 270 - 454 Mercuiser, when I discovered that the upper swivel shaft was starting to seize, with also some evidence of corrosion in this area as well.
I have purchased a Mercury access plug kit to fit to allow removal without taking the engine out.
The question I have, does anyone know what size thread the upper swivel pin has cut into the bottom of to allow a slide hammer to be fitted to assist with removing?
Have had a dig around with a screwdriver but the hole is full antifoul and gunk. Hope run a tap though to clean out threads
I am going to make an adaptor to fit to a slide hammer I am hoping to borrow.
Does anyone have any tips and hints about fitting access plug kit, removing and replacing swivel shaft in this way?
I have a number 11 mercruiser service manual for bravo sterndrives, looks pretty straightforward and have got the bell housing, hinge pins, bellows removed without to many problems.
Many thanks to the guys who have replied to my previous postings."
