Bravo one shift shaft bushings

Hello I bought a bushing kit for my bravo one outdrive and it came with 2 short ones and a longer one. I only took out one short one at the top and one long one at the bottom as well as the seal.
my question is why it came with 2 shorts and could you use both on the top instead of just one? Thanks.

Hi there, welcome to marineengine.com boating forums!:)

This sort of depends on the year/serial number of the drive. Early year drives used two bushings while the later drives went to just one bushing. That mentioned, even the early year models only require one bushing now even if you've removed two of them....Just use one of them especially if you only removed one.
Also some early model drives use an O-ring between the top shift shaft hole and the top cap while later models went to using a plug/seal between the shaft hole and top cap. The early models can use the new plug vs O-ring if desired.

Hope you are using/following the Merc OEM service manual on this procedure for your drive year/serial number.
