Bravo 3 gear box

I have a Bravo 3 gear box (serial number OL428615) and when I am running at 3000 rpm the gear oil leaks out of the oil bottle in the boat. There is no water in the gear box. Please help.

Is it leaking from the cap? If so check to make sure the black flat washer/gasket is under the cap and in good condition, Also make sure that on top of the cap the little orange rubber one way valve is in place and working correctly.

If the orange rubber piece has been moved or compromised in anyway to where the vent hole was exposed in anyway, then the drive will spill out oil from the bottle cap at higher RPM's. If the valve is bad then you will need a new cap to solve the problem. Good luck.

Here are a few other ideas to consider, just in case the cap is ok.

Had this issue last summer with a new boat. Changed cap etc.(fluid all over bilge, twice). Actually watched as gear lube climbed up bottle on strb eng but was fine on port. No water in gear lube, pressure and vacuum tests checked out OK. I talked to Merc and learned that there is an issue with one of the seals at the prop shaft. Problem occurs at high RPM. Seal replaced under warranty and problem gone. Contact Merc and give them your serial number. Took the Merc rep some time to find this out but eventually found someone at Merc that new about the issue.
