Hi all, after putting in these dual stage power reeds for some reason doing the adjustment on the slow speed carb adjustment it changes the rpms very litle. i turn needle to seat back off 1 1/2 then turn in slow to gain rpms. carbs have been fully rebuilt and new floots and adj correctly.with theslow speed needles turning in it seems to run best only about 1/2 turn out from seat it will purr all day at that setting and rpm on muffs 1000 put in water and rpms 800 go to take off and it fluutters abit with a slow skip then starts to climb rpms around 2500 rpms she will jump out of the water it seems to run better on the lean side . after pulling plugs even with carbs set to lean the plugs are not the light brown they look dark as running rich should i lean out more on ss needles. but if i run to lean can i do piston damage. even though this motor does have a fixed hi speed jet and at high rpms it runs great.i was wondering if these new reeds i have to do any change. the book says to turn out ss needles 5/8 to 3/4 not the 1 1/2 that every one says this is a 1970 60 hp maybe these older motors the adj is a bit different.today i have 2 new sets of plugs i will see were i can get the plugs to get the light brown color i will fiddle with it.Butt tell me in on the needles are making it lean out on needles making it rich. i get that mixed up all the time is this correct?

well after a day of playing with the carbs on my 1970 60 hp i for some reason can not get the plugs to burn to the light brown color. it is tuned to the lean side and the plugs still seem dark. butt it runs ok. i was thinking i might need to change the plugs to a hotter range. i replaced the pistons with a lower compretion piston glm after market. the omc pistons that i replaced were the looper style slight dome on top of piston these glm pistons are flat on the top. so between the dual stage power reeds from boyeson and the flat top glm pistons i used to rebuild this motor the carbs rebuilt. For some reason it is running rich. the slow speed needles are about 1/2 turn out from seat.Witch i would think it would burn lean. can i go in more on the adjustment or will i do damage .
