Bogs and Misses at Throttle down, Why?

I have a 1984 3.0 Mercruiser inboard that throttles up and runs great at plane and speed. But the problem I have is when I throttle down to idle the engine wants to die off, misses and runs like it has a dead cylinder. If I turn the engine off and wait a minute, it starts right up and purrs like a kitten. I already replaced the exhaust manifold because there was a overheating problem. I switched out the fuel pump from another and that didn't fix the problem. I was thinking maybe not getting fuel, but it runs at speed fine. It has a new water pump. The carb. was overhauled and adjusted according to manual. The points are gapped correctly and the engine is timed right. I have noticed that the oil pressure is steady at 30psi on idle, goes to 40psi at plane and speed. But, the oil pressure seems to stay at 40psi when I throttle down, but returns to 30psi after shutting down and re-starting.
I am perplexed as to why the engine won't idle after running at plane and speed. Any suggestions as to what the problem is? I appreciate any input. Thanks!:cool:

That motor is unique in that the carb is mounted above the exhaust manifold!

I suspect your carb is slow flooding. When you suddenly throttle down it idles too lean and stalls. Let it sit a while and the slow flooding compensates for the lean idle mixture and now it idles okay.
