"1986 mercury xd 25hp #A955266, first time i took this boat out it ran good for 15-20 mins then bogged at wot,, took it again another day it ran fine,, then took it out 3rd time it bogged from the start,, then after it warmed up like 30mins or so it opened back up,, i have new fuel lines,, carb kit,filters, good compression what else could be hampering my fishing day?"

"Bad spark box. I had one that would knock off one cylinder.

Next time it does this pull the plugs and read them. If one is black, switch both the wires TO the coils and the spark plug wires to the plugs--it can be dome easily. Then see if the problem shifts to the other cylinder. If som replace the spark box. If not, replace the coil.

"try pumping the fuel bulb next time out, if it helps its something with the fuel system supply. You can also try a timing light on each plug wire, if it acts up move the timing light to each wire and look for the flash, no flash means no spark and its the ign system."

"did not check it with the timing light like u say,, ive pretty much ruled out a fuel problem, now they calling for rain nex few days so i wont be doing nothing with it till it lets up,,, if there is a coil going out, would this make it bogg sumtimes,,, im confused with it because sumtimes it runs fine."

Sounds like the low speed mixt

Sounds like the low speed mixture is a little lean...if the carby is clean turn the idle mix screw out a 1/4 of a turn and then adjust the idle speed so its idling at the right rpm

"hmmm, im sure i had it set more rich than anything for the fact that i jus did work on the engine,, i did make it more lean on the water, and it ran good ,but i thought it was idleing lil bit to high after i leaned it up, ill reset it and try again ,,thank you"
