Bog from idle

"Greetings,
New poster here. Great board. I need some help. I have a 1999 90 horse Johnson outboard. I've owned it since new. I ONLY have used OMC oil in the oil tank. Maintained very well also. Recently, I have a problem when going from idle to take off. I get a bog. If I bump it up to about 1200 rpms, I'm fine. I've de-carbonized the motor with the OMC decarbonizing fluid, fresh plugs also. Today while running at speed, I noticed that the pump ball was sucked in. I'm going to check the fuel lines today, and see what I find there. Any help igs greatly appreciated. I'm mechanically inclined (I build car engines) but the outboard motors are new to me.

Thanks,
Tim in New Baltimore"

"u have an obvious fuel restriction....(primer bulb)..look between primer bulb and tank....(fuel shut-off,filter,anti-syphon valve,etc)
your oiling system, should be methodically checked by the book...oil tank emptied every 2 yrs or more if stored outside and unprotected,ALL warning system of the oiling system and overheat should be checked.....many engs go down due to lack of knowledge about this..if a person chooses not to have it done,or do a professional job themself,u can get off the oil side, and premix..if u have a fuel restriction, which you do,u r overoiling too...due to lower fuel volume, same oil being pumped into carbs...."

"OK,
I blew out the line from the tank to the pump ball. The line was clear. I also blew out the fitting that goes into the fuel tank. That was OK too. The only thing is that the anti-siphon valve, though clean, seemed restrictive when blowing through it. There is nothing restricting it except that when blowing through the valve, I have to blow pretty hard to get the ball to come off of it's seat. The spring seems stiff. Should I change the valve?"

"chnge the valve, but not w/an aluminum one......brass......bulletin on that,.or,...put a nipple on it..unless below deck."
