"Not difficult to tell it's boating season again
Last year (or maybe longer) there was a long post on this site talking about chronic overheating problems with Early Optimax models.
Once again I'm getting 10 to 20 emails a week asking for the pdf file that I referenced about the cooling system.
I don't mind at all providing it, but hope that this post gets found when the people asking are doing web searches.
That earlier post did NOT deal with regular maintenance issues for the Opti.
The file will NOT tell you how to replace your impeller or poppet.
The file itself is of little use unless you have already tried everything known to man to try and cure an overheat - it's definately not a "first step" guide.
It is simply a schematic of the the late 90's upto 2001 6 cylinder Opti's that were experiencing a chronic overheat problem that Merc was having trouble fixing.
After 2002 there were some minor changes that apparently fixed the early issue. So if your 2003 is overheating you need to change the impeller or the poppet or thermostats.
So yes, definately ask your questions. Even post them here or email me directly (I really don't mind the personal emails, but please, do outline your specific issue).
Myself or others on this site will be happy to help/advise if we can."
