I have a 1981 mercury 7.5hp an

I have a 1981 mercury 7.5hp and I was wondering on the pin where you make the adjust for the tilt. There are five holes you can chose from. I also have a 12' alumncraft jon boat and I was wondering with hole does the pin need to be in. Is the motor suppose to be staight up and down or should the lower unit be more towards the boat?

"adjust the pin for max speed, all the way towards the rear will try to lift the nose of the boat. with only 7.5hp it probably doesn't matter to much"
