Blue Plastic Drain Plugs Breaking

While running my 1999 350 Mag

While running my 1999 350 Mag I have had 3 of the blue plugs break off and fill the bilge with water? Why is this happening? I have changed the raw water pump impeller and housing and the thermostat. The engine has 170 hours.. Thoughts?

Been having the same problem with a customers boat
went back to the old style brass elbows and pulling the hose to drain and winterize.
 
I have read elsewhere on this

I have read elsewhere on this site that these cheap blue plastic plugs have a nasty habit of doing that. The answer may be to replace the whole works with new every 2-3 years. They may get brittle after a few years with repeated hot/cold cycles. Just a guess.

Thanks! I am ordering new brass elbows for mine before they break--been carrying spares since I had one break off at the knob.
