Blows ignition fuse when put in reverse

"Hi I have a 1968 Evinrude 85

"Hi I have a 1968 Evinrude 85 HP with electric shift. Every time I put it in reverse it blows the ignition fuse. Checked amperage when it wasnt running, foward and nuetaral drew very little amperage, but when I put it in reverse the amp meter went beyond - 15 amps. any ideas about what is going on here?"

I would assume that

I would assume that the wire that powers the reverse solonoid is shorted or the solonoid is shorted. Should be easy to troubleshoot with and ordinary mulimeter.
