I have a 2001 150 merc saltwater series carbureted engine..It is not getting spark to the plugs. I looked in the manual where it says to always carry extra 20amp fuses for the engine overload. I went to replace the 20amp fuse (one of three which was blown) marked "accessories and starting circuit"...It will snap as soon as it touches the fuse socket...definatly a short somewhere....(The other 2 fuses in the same plug are the upper and lower voltage regulators which are both fine) I went below and unplugged all the accessories to the motor meaning the gauges,etc....It still blows the fuse instantly!!! Any ideas where to look next???? Thanks for any help!!! 650 hrs on motor and have never had to replace this fuse.....

try this take a 1150 or trailer light bulb and take bad fuse and and solder wires to light bulb and then solder to fuse at each end.
Then plug into holder, if light comes on you have a short, then go to motor and start un pluging things. When light goes out you have found your problem.

Thanks again for your guidance....I did what you said. One the wiring side of the motor right above the battery connections there are 2 small square elec units (2 1/2 x 2 1/2) with plugs on the outside of them. On the one on the bottom, the very bottom socket of the red wire connection to the purple wire socket is where I found it to be. I dont know what they are because I dont have a mech manual. I see the coils on each spark plug setup so I dont think they are coils.(the two square units)....Do I need to replace this box...whatever it is? Again, thank you for your help! dave
