"1989 Johnson 150 - Oil running from under the hood down the outside of the lower unit. Motor runs great, oil injection has been disco'd, where does black oil come from?"

Sounds to be from the exhaust

Sounds to be from the exhaust side of the engine. Check the gaskets to the exhaust cover at the back of the engine.
