"I have a 1977 black max bough

"I have a 1977 black max bought recently ( my first boat).Owner mentioned that he hasn't had it on the water for a few years and needs servicing.
Had the mechanic service it,he changed the corroded thermostates, changed the impellor, but the water drips out very slowly. He tells me that its fine, but looking at the other outboards, which seem to have a powerfull waterstream, my outboard just drips out pathetically. I worked that the mechanic isd vertually usless, has anybody had a similar problem and how did you fix it.
I am definitely looking for a better mechanic in the meantime.

"i have to change the waterpum

"i have to change the waterpump in my 150 merc also,i guess we need a book lol.save money and know its right.i do know they should spray hard, from a 10 horse to a 300."

"Dripping out is not fine. If

"Dripping out is not fine. If the impeller was changed I would inspect the tell tail (pee hole) for blockage. If there is no blockage such as bugs or debris wich is very common, it's time to keep tracing the water until you find the problem. Does the pressure increase with throttle? There should always be a good steady stream of warm water. I would recommend not using this motor until a positive fix is made. These tell tails commonly get plugged up so take the water hose off the inside of the cowling wich is usually just held by a stay strap (zip tie) and inspet it carefully. Let me know what you find."

"Thanks for the respones, yes

"Thanks for the respones, yes as I throttle up the water pressure does increase, but not enough to justify the amount of throttle applied.
But I will trace the water line as far as I can though

thanks"

I have a volvo penta now but m

I have a volvo penta now but my first boat I repowered with an 81 merc black max v-6 175 hp from a 78 115 hp inline 6. I had the same thing happen to me and never had an overheating problem. I figured it was from the engine just being erratic as it was when idiling. It was used and I bought it from a mercury certified shop I dealt with for years. They never set me in the wrong direction and all they told me was that it was in salt water to be careful of removing any bolts if I had to. And they were the ones who serviced the engine yearly for the owner. It really had a lot of power especailly with the weight of my first boat. You can try and clear the tube but from my experience I would listen to your mechanic.
