Hi,

I have a 2004 Bigfoot, 50HP, 4-Stroke EFI with a suspect electrical 12vdc supply) problem. Just need to know a few of things to confirm my suspicions so I can investigate futher …..
#When this engine is running will it stop running if the battery is disconnected?
#When the ignition is one but engine is not running what current is the current draw?
#When the engine is idling will it charge the battery?

Many thanks for your help

Do not disconnect the battery while engine is running.
Minimal draw, little or nothing if there is no aux equipment switched on.
Not sure,I'm a two stroke fan and on idle a two stroke will not charge the battery.

I do not intend to disconnect the battery while engine is running.... but I'm trying to work out what would happen if a fault condition did that.

The motor will run but could damage your rectifier/regulator and your alternator as there is nowhere for the charge output to go.Again I'm afraid I'm not familiar with 4stroke outboard but it is unlikely a fault would occur unless one of the cables broke and it would need to be in very noticeable poor condition to reach that point. They are usually pretty heavy wire,2 or 4 awg
