i got a lot of good answers yesterday from chiefalen, boat_tech, woodieman and bulit7, thanks. i pulled the plugs last night (snowstorm and all) and sure enough they were full of water. i cranked it until the water quit squirting out of the plug holes, added spray lube, and cranked it a little more, trying to slow the rusting process. when the incident first happened i checked the oil and it seemed fine. last night it seems overfull, no milky white but i suppose overfull means there's water down there. remembering that it all seemed to start with the overheating it may be caused by a broken block, broken head, broken head gasket, or getting in through the exhaust somehow. too many choices for my budget!! would it be reasonable to assume that a good compression test would eliminate the block, head and gasket? if it came in through the exhaust, would it be the bellows? and the real question... can a back yard mechanic R&R the heads (do they need to be magnafluxed) and replace the bellows, y pipe and exhaust shutters.
