Big Block problems

Hey Guys,

I have a 50' gibson houseboat with two crusader 454's. I purchased the boat (which was said to have sit for 4 years) and ran it 40 miles home. Boat ran great but the port engine wont run above 2600RPM. The starboard engine runs perfect and hasn't been touched besides fuel filters and oil change. Believing it was a fuel problem because the port engine is setup exactly the same as the starboard engine I pulled off the carb which sat for 4 years and had it rebuilt at National Carburetor, I received the rebuilt carb and strapped it on and now I'am having problems off of idle. As soon as i put the carb on and primed the engine I let her idle for about 20 minutes and put her under a load and revved her up to 2500rpm and she ran great, I let the boat sit for about a week and started her up (started up perfect) and it idled beautifully. As soon as i hit the throttle (under load or not) it hesitates pretty badly. as soon as the hesitation is over it will either rev up or stall out. I didn't know if it would be a carb tuning issue? But usually after I send them my carb they work perfectly. It has a rebuilt carb and new fuel filter and plenty of gas, thinking it needs some carb tuning or maybe new fuel pump? Someone please help the boat has been out of commission for 4 weeks now but i would like to get her running perfect for this abor day weekend. Thanks guys. Gregg

Been sitting for a while...???

I think I'd diagnose a bit more before unloading ben franklins on parts...that's a helluva hull for those engines to move and anything being marginal will yield less than ideal performance. If the distributors are older mechanical types, ensure their advance mechanisms are intact and functional. same for the secondary side of the ignition.

If you have separate tanks for each engine and only one is acting up, bad gasoline is very possible...I'd do both tanks as 4 years of sitting is not kind to today's fuel. If the float bowls have fuel, then the pump and plumbing is likely to be ok
