BF30A Lower unit removal

"I have a 98 BF30A and am trying to find out how to remove the lower unit. I am getting a manual, but it is not here yet. So far I have the 4 bolts removed, but I cant see how to remove the shift rod. Any help would be greatly appreciated."

you need to remove the 10mm nu

you need to remove the 10mm nut and shaft collor

"Put the engine in reverse. Then look at the front of the lower unit. You should see the stainless steel shift shaft. Hold the lock nut with a 10mm wrench, then turn the coupler so that it goes up with another 10mm wrench. Once the coupler is clear the lower unit should drop off. There maybe another screw underneath the trim tab but I don't think so. If the LU doesn't come off, give it a "little love" with a rubber mallet (but don't hit on thr cavitation plate, it will break off)."
