BF150 External Oil Cooler

On my Hot engine, will an external oil cooler lower case temperature? My guess answer is yes, but seeking those in the know...

If so is it better to cool the cooler with water or just Air?

Additional Info:

Appears the water flow up from water pump is routed to oil filter base which is a tiny oil cooler and then the water is dumped into exhaust water flow. So, my pee brain tells me additional water cooling is impractical, however if I use a filter sandwich to extend heated oil into an external cooler that might just help lower engine case temperatures.

So now seeking comments, opinions, etc.
