"Having a problem that's driving my local tech and myself nuts. Have a BF135A. It's an 06 with about 750 hours. Had it since new. It starts and runs fine at running speed. When throttling back to idle speed it will stall. When backing off the beach at 1000 RPM it stalls when dropping back to idle speed. I read the problem the guy was having with the 130 about a month ago because it sounds like same thing. I checked the plugs all slightly burnt but all same color, changed them. Replaced high pressure filter. removed and cleaned IAC unit with brake cleaner and lubed with WD40. Checked RACOR no water in fuel. Tried adjusting idle screw but that doesn't seem to change idle speed (700 RPM). According to service manual should unplug 2 prong plug from IAC to adjust idle. When I do the engine dies. My tech has been trying to contact Honda but they put him on hold forever or don't return his call. He is our local Honda dealer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks"

it should not die when unplugg

it should not die when unplugged
trurn the screw out to raise idle then unplug it

"Not sure if this will help you but here's my story. I live in a remote part of baja california so finding a Honda tech is pretty hard to do. Some motorcycle guys showed up in town making a video and one of them was a motor-head. Great guys. So I offer to take them fishing and tell the motor-head my sad story and he goes, "I know exactly what it is". He comes over the next day and removes a small solenoid switch that he says controls some air intake while at idle. It has a screen in it and it's all plugged up with junk. We clean it out and put it back together and that's it - it runs perfect again. Sorry, I'm not sure what the switch is called. I'm out of town right now but when I get back I can take a photo of it and forward it to you if you send me your email address.

I can't believe how lucky I was that this guy came along - I would have chased this thing around forever. He said it was a common problem."

"Justintime, thanks I'll try that. I'll be back on the water tomorrow. I have adjusted the idle screw in and out and it doesn't seem to make any difference in the idle speed (700RPM). My tech finally got through to Honda. They think it may be a bad thermostat? not letting engine warm up. We'll check that next.
Jack, thanks for the advice. Sounds like the IAC unit. I've taken it off and cleaned with brake cleaner (the screen wasn't really dirty)lubed and reinstalled."

"Bob. I am still having the same problem that you are with my 130. I got a factory service manual, cleaned the IAC and followed the steps to adjust the idle and mine also dies when I unplug the IAC. I will be curious to see what you guys come up with as my local Honda service center told me to live with the problem."

"justintime, is it poosible to screw the idle adjuster too far out? I opened it up 1 1/2 turns. Idle came up a little but not much. When I launched yesterday motored out of mrina area at no wake speed. When I got to open water I gave it throtle (normally up to 5200 to run against current) and would only go 4000 with throttle all the way advanced. After about 10 minutes it started losing rpm's (3600, 3200, etc.) I throttled back and when I shifted into neutral it stalled. Checked RACOR, fuel ball etc. OK. Started back up and it ran ok the rest of the day. I could get 5400 which is where I normally run but no more.
Today I closed the idle screw back about 1/2 turn and it ran ok. Idle still low. Still can't get over 5500 RPM.
Talked to tech and made arrangements to bring it into shop next week but he is still perplexed also.
Again just wondering if the idle screw would have any affect on cruising rpm's?"
