BF130A Flush Port Question

I find it a minor pain to have to remove the round plastic cover and insert the flush adapter for my BF130A after every outing and was wondering if there would be any ill effects if I leave the round cover off and the flush port adapter on (with grease on the threads) permanently? I could use a hose to spray the area with Salt Away after each outing. Oh, I boat in salt water.

I have seen several people doing this. One potential problem I can see is, if the cover is off and you get a big following wave, water could easily get inside the engine cover.

Since the cover does not cost much, put a hole in the cover that the adapter could fit tightly in and still be screwed into the fitting.

Although, very unlikely, the following wave, if strong enough could also pass through the flush adapter past the check valve and back up through the cooling system. I am not sure if that is really a problem or not. If it is, you still can just put a cap on the adapter or just leave a hose permanently attached to it and bring it around to the front of the engine.

Just a thought.

Any idea where I can find replacement covers? I have a set already, but I'd like to have another set so that I can have one set with a hole for the flush adapter and another without the hole.

Mike, I'm not sure I understand your second concern about a following wave passing through the flush adapter into the cooling system. Doesn't that already have seawater going through it? Just curious. My plan is to mount short lengths of hose from the flush adapter to the transom as you suggested.
