BF130 idling rough but runs great, please help

Hello all, I have a key west 1900 sportsman boat with a 130 honda. I put the boat in the water ran for 15 mins with no problems then all of a sudden it dies and wont run, it will crank for about 4 secs but pop and die, acting like water was in the gas or just had bad gas so I took the boat out and drained the tank, checked the filters and everything. Put 100% gas back in with 2 bottles of heet just in case some water was in there. Fired the boat back up and it ran great, put it in the water and ran it just about all day with no problems but towards the end of the day it started to act like it was missing when it was idling but if you revved the motor up or put it in gear with some throttle its smooth, took the boat out and went home, today put it back in the water and long as you have it revved up or are moving its smooth but if you idle it acts like you took a plug wire off????? Every once in a while it will idle smooth but 99% of the time it acts up. Do you think it still has some bad gas or what could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
 
I've always been told to try to run an isolated portable tank when things like this happen. It will help you figure out if it's a flow problem from the original tank to the engine or in the engine itself.
 
If you can take compression, that would at least tell you that the cylinders are ok. Cylinders or valves or both could be carboned up.

In general, these engines need good spark plugs, clean filters and good fuel. Any one of those things missing, the engine will not run right.

Do as c-level suggests on the fuel.

Make sure that the engine is coming to temperature. Thermostat may be stuck open.
Check thermostat. If the engine is running cold, it will not idle right.

Pull all of the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Then lightly seat them back on. Start the engine and pull the wires off (with insulated pliers) one at a time and see if the engine idle gets worse or stays the same. If all cylinders react the same way, then you have good spark and each cylinder is getting fuel. If one does not change the running speed, then that cylinder has an issue. You just have to determine if it is fuel or spark. If you have not done a compression test, now is the time to do it to eliminate a physical issue with the cylinder.

Check/Change your spark plugs. Only use the NGK ZFR7F.

Check for any carbon blockage in the screen #24 on the IAC #26 http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Honda/Outboard%20Engine/2003/BF130A3%20LA%20/INTAKE%20MANIFOLD/parts.html . Clean it with some solvent. Use sparingly, so you do not damage the IAC,

If those things do not solve it.....

Change your high pressure and low pressure fuel filters. If they were clogged, it would normally affect the high throttle operation, which appears is not the case here.
